The positive case is believed to be a staff member, who was at the Waurn Ponds campus on Wedesday 14 July, between 9am and 3pm.

The University has temporarily closed sections of the campus for deep cleaning.

Stawell Secondary College issued a statement on its social media site stating Deakin University informed the school the Year 11 and 12 VCE students and staff members, who attended the campus on Thursday July 15, were not in contact with the confirmed COVID case, nor their close contacts, and therefore are not deemed close contacts.

"While we were on campus at Deakin University we were never in the rooms that the confirmed case was in the day before, and all Deakin staff and mentors that were with us on the day had not been in contact with the confirmed COVID case," the statement said.

"COVIDSafe procedures were followed, including the wearing of masks and checking in, and if we receive any further information from the Department of Health and Human Services we will be in contact with families immediately.

"However, out of an abundance of caution, we encourage all students with any symptoms to get tested and isolate, as per current health advice."
