A $40,000 lighting upgrade in Stawell has been officially launched with a visit from a member of the Victorian Government.

Parliamentary Secretary for Crime Prevention, Mr Frank McGuire MP arrived in Stawell on Thursday to show off the new lighting which has been constructed at the Taylors Gully Park.
Users of the Marrang Kindergarten and Early Learning Centre, members of the Wimmera Proactive Policing Unit, Northern Grampians Shire Council officers and Mr McGuire were in attendance to celebrate the completion of the project.
Northern Grampians Shire Council mayor Murray Emerson said he was pleased to see the project signed off.
"It has been a great project and it has been needed here for quite a while," he said.
"Our people here at the kindergarten have been screaming out for some security lighting and as a result of some campaigning and goodwill from the state government we have now delivered some great lighting."

In late 2020 funding for the upgrades was announced with $36,650 allocated as a Community Safety Infrastructure Grant for lighting improvements from the State Government, with the Northern Grampians Shire adding $3350 to the project.
Wimmera Proactive Policing Unit Leading Senior Constable Toni Chegwin said the new lighting was important for creating another safe spaces for families in Stawell.
"It is important for our local communities to be able to use their facilities safely and the lighting helps to give that feeling of safety and hopefully more families can get down and use it," she said.

The Taylors Gully Park holds the Marrang Kindergarten and Early Learning Centre as well as a community playground.
Work to install the lighting started in December 2020, with work completed earlier in 2021.
The lighting was designed to be especially helpful for staff and families walking to and from the carpark at night as well as increasing the usability of the park.
