But thanks to a $5000 Northern Grampians Shire Council Community grant the oval, known as 'Paddy's Paddock', will be fully upgraded later in 2021.
St Patrick's Primary School tutoring and wellbeing officer Lillie Comitti said the school was looking forward to creating the redeveloped space.
"We sourced a meeting with Chantel Thomas to help us work out what grant would be the best apply for," she said.

"It is usually pretty wet and muddy and the kids will come in very dirty after recess and lunch.
"Hopefully by getting it fixed up we can avoid that and hopefully there will be less injuries too because it is not the best surface to be playing on."
A spokesperson from the school said they want to use the funds to develop a safe and secure space for our students and the wider community to play and utilise.
They also said the oval is used not only at recess and lunch, but also at sport time for our whole school.
The oval has many bare and dry patches which have been worn in over the years, which become muddy during winter and rough during the warmer months.
Ms Comitti said it is important each school has an adequate environment where students can have a break dring their day of learning.
"It is really important to have a good, quality play space because they need that recess and lunch break to rest their minds and reset.
"We want to give them a space where they can run around and burn their energy before they have to sit back down again, so it is really important to provide them with that safe space for our students."
Work on the oval will begin on September 13, with Grampians Westway Nursery working onsite.
