The 'China Bridge Competition' judges students on a speech in Chinese and present it to judges and audience.

Moving through regional, state and national competitions, Miss Sanders is now representing Australia as she heads into the final rounds.

"It's a competition that is based around the proficiency in Mandarin and Chinese culture," she said.

"I started participating in this competition in August for the regional leg for Victoria.

"I came first, so I was chosen as the representative as Victoria for the Australian competition. From there I got asked to be one of the representatives for Australia which I'm very grateful for."

Miss Sanders said she started preparing for the global competition in September.

"So far there have been two rounds of global finals," she said.

"In the first round, there were 100 competitors in the first round from five continents. We had to write a two-minute speech.

"We also had to do an exam. I managed to get through as one of the six competitors from Oceania.

"I wasn't expecting to get into the second round."

Miss Sanders said the second round was a face-off type competition and was recorded on TV.

Miss Sanders is now one of three competitors from Oceania going into the final 15 for another knockout round on November 1.

"I feel very lucky and grateful to have gone so far in the competition," she said.
