The service recently received a major equipment upgrade, providing a significant boost to rescue capabilities.
“Through VICSES the new equipment we have will be crucial in helping us when responding to emergencies,” Stawell SES controller Alan Blight said.
Among the updated equipment is a new rescue truck and new cutters and spreaders to help when attending car accidents.
“Our spreading capacity has increased by about 30 per cent while the cutting capacity has increased from 90 to 150 tonnes,” Mr Blight said.
“It will allow us to cut into heavy and more modern vehicles much easier. The new equipment is smaller and more powerful, with the pumps easier to manage.
“We talk about the golden hour of getting someone out of a car crash and to hospital to increase their chances of survival in serious instances. The new equipment makes our process much speedier.”
Funding for the equipment comes from VICSES which is allocated by the state government.
Mr Blight said he hopes they do not have to use the equipment over summer, urging the community to be safe.
“It is important for everyone to be safe on the roads, take their time and not do anything reckless,” he said.
