Many schools in the region have been planting trees with local landcare group Project Platypus.
Marion College in Ararat is one of the schools that assisted with the tree planting.
On June 5, 21 students from Marian College in Ararat went to the Black Ranges to help Project Platypus on a tree planting site.
Students from years seven to 12 travelled to the Black Ranges for the tree planting exercise.
The 21 students broke into small teams and planted over 700 trees on the day.
The Project Platypus’ local landcare facilitator Andrea Mitchell said lots of schools had been involved in the plantout.
“It’s encouraging students to understand the environment,” she said.
She said it was about long term memory making, where students would have positive memories of planting trees.
“The community has also been involved,” she said.
“We’ve had participants in our recent plantouts ranging from four to 87 years old.”
Another school involved in tree planting is Ararat College.
The school’s Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning students joined Ararat Rotary Club and the Greenhill Lake Committee for the tree planting exercise on July 26.
The groups planted trees at Greenhill Lake in Ararat during the morning.
In the afternoon the Rotarians travelled back to the school’s Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning farm for morning tea.
Students showed the Rotarians their wine shed, with their 2018 Shiraz in maturation, the vineyard, the classroom and the orchard.
Other schools involved in tree planting activities include Stawell Primary School, Stawell Secondary College, Pomonal Primary School and more.
