Plantouts are an annual event where Project Platypus calls on volunteers to help plant trees on local properties.
To kick start the Plantout early, Stawell Primary School grade five pupils planted 1100 trees on a property near Lake Fyans in June.
Project Platypus manager and Plantout organiser John Pye said the kids loved the hot Milo during the Plantout.
“It was a top effort,” he said.
Plantout weekends will be taking place on July 8 at Barkly, July 15 at Rhymney, and July 21 and 22 at Lake Fyans.
Project Platypus have over 18,000 trees to be planted during the Plantout.
“Planting this many trees wouldn’t be possible without the help of volunteers,” Mr Pye said.
“Plantouts are designed to improve ecological connectivity between the Grampians and Pyrenees Ranges, and sites have been carefully selected to ensure there is a win-win for both the environment and for farming productivity.”
“The Plantout is an opportunity to help improve the environment and put back the trees that have been removed from our landscape over the last 150 years or so.”
During the Plantout sturdy footwear, wearing clothing appropriate for the weather and a pair of gardening gloves is recommended. Plantouts are also fully catered. For more information go to: www.platypus.org.au
