COVID-19 vaccines have a lot of information and confusion around them, given the vaccines are now open to all, but there are limitations on vaccines such as age restrictions for AstraZeneca and a lack of the Pfizer vaccine which is recommended for people under 60.
AstraZeneca is available to anyone over the age of 18, but it must be administered by a GP if you are between the age of 18-59.
Stawell Regional Health has AstraZeneca for those aged 60-year-old and above and runs weekly clinics.
People are encouraged to make bookings, and there is no waiting list.
IN OTHER NEWS:
SRH are waiting for more Pfizer supplies and have a waiting list set up; as someone's consent form comes in, it is added to the waiting list.
Pfizer stock is estimated to come in late August; people on the waiting list will be phoned to make a booking.
Community engagement and service innovation manager Nicolene Harvey said the community response to getting a vaccine had been great.
"We are seeing an increase in people asking for both AstraZeneca and Pfizer over the last week ," she said.
SRH are organising a permanent space for a COVID-10 clinic, with a large area for doing vaccinations.
"This will be ready early August and will increase the amount of days we can run vaccination clinics for both AstraZeneca and Pfizer," Ms Harvey said.
To receive a COVID-19 vaccine, a consent form must be filled out; after it is checked, a vaccine coordinator will make contact to organise a time for the first and second dose.
For the AstraZeneca vaccine, it is recommended that you wait 8 - 12 weeks between the first and second dose.
It is recommended that there is at least a two week period between the flu vaccination shot and the COVID-19 vaccination shot.
COVID-19 vaccinations are free and do not require a prescription.
