Sergeant Paul Mcgovern, of Warrnambool police, said the search now also included the Bendigo, Ballarat and Geelong areas.
"We are very concerned for her welfare. She has been recently diagnosed with a serious illness," he said.
She is believed to have left with her dog, maltese shih tzu, in a grey Holden commodore with registration YGT-150.
EARLIER: Police are seeking public assistance to help find missing Timboon 84-year-old woman Ethel McLean.
Warrnambool police Sergeant Stuart Revell said Ethel was reported missing by concerned family members last night after limited contact on Thursday afternoon.
She is believed to have left with her dog in her vehicle - a grey Holden sedan registration plate number YGT-150.
"When she was last spoken to she was believed to be in Timboon," Sergeant Revell said.
"Police and the family want to know where she is and that she's safe. Ethel's family is concerned.
"She could be heading north towards Dunkeld. Anyone with information is requested to immediately contact the Warrnambool police station on 55 60 1333."
