The Halls Gap Pedestrian/Bike Path Project - Safe Zoo Link Investigation received just under $30,000. This project will look into a safer option for pedestrians and cyclists traveling along the Ararat-Halls Gap Road as they travel to the zoo and other businesses.
The Halls Gap Zoo is a popular attraction and is located on Ararat-Halls Gap Road, which has a speed limit set for 100km per hour.
"A safe option is urgently needed for residents and tourists to help separate cars from cyclists and pedestrians on the Ararat-Halls Gap Road. This project will investigate options for a safe path for pedestrians and cyclists to traverse the road to the Zoo and nearby accommodation businesses," Northern Grampians Shire Council Mayor, Murray Emerson said.

Creating a separate shared path will minimise conflict between vehicles and cyclists/ pedestrians, enabling users of all abilities to safely access this area on bike or foot.
"The objective of this project is to investigate the best route for a shared path to separate pedestrians, cyclists and high speed vehicles and produce an investigation-based set of recommendations for the best way to improve safety for everyone who uses the road," Mr Emerson said.
"It is expected the project can begin in late January 2021 with the report complete by the end of next year."
The other project is The Safe Path for Workers on Abattoir Road, which received $60,000 in funding.
