Undecided, right until the night before nominations closed, Mr Hosemans said it was a 'tough call' to make.
Mr Hosemans joined the Northern Grampians Shire Council in March 2014 when a by-election was held for the South-West Ward, after the resignation of Paul Russell in December. Mr Hosemans said it was the ability to commit his time to the position ultimately led to his decision.
"I wasn't particularly comfortable with not being able to put as much time into the position as I would like and think it deserves," he said.
"I think I've been able to do it quite well over the past six years but with work it has become quite difficult to get time off during the middle of the day for meetings and get-togethers.
"It's been a bit harder the last year or so. That's where my decision lies with calling time and letting someone else have a go.
"Unfortunately there hasn't been someone to put their hand up just yet."
Mr Hosemans said the lack of nominations for the positions on the council could be looked at from a number of different angles.
"Everyone could be reasonably happy with how things are run at the moment and thought they might leave it to the existing councillors who are there," he said.

Mr Hosemans said there were many projects he was proud to be apart of during his time on council.
"There are so many and to pinpoint a few is really hard," he said. "At Halls Gap, there has been significant landscaping works and drainage and path improvements.
"Heath Street development is going to occur this year which will mean more parking and paths.
"Working with the Great Western Future Committee to get their plans in place for the future of Great Western has been a highlight.

"And in Stawell, in general, being part of council when we got rid of that massive tyre pile was certainly a great achievement."
Mr Hosemans said now that the situation about the positions was known, he would encourage others to seriously consider the position on the South West ward.
"There are certainly a lot of people who are local advocates within the community," he said. "It's a great role as a councillor. It's very rewarding to see what you can do within the shire for the community and the outcomes that you achieve."
Mr Hosemans said he would like to thank the residents of the Northern Grampians Shire for their support.
"Hopefully we do find a suitable candidate to take on the South West ward role," he said.
