East Grampians Health Service has confirmed a positive case of COVID-19 has been identified through its screening program.
This person has not required care and is recovering at home.
In a statement released by the health service, the organisation states the welfare of the community, staff, patients, and clients are at the forefront of the response to COVID-19.
"The Department of Health and Human Services responds to every case of coronavirus after notifying EGHS, and there are strict procedures in place to protect the public wherever someone tests positive to coronavirus," it read.
"All close contacts will be identified and notified that they need to self-quarantine and seek testing.
"All EGHS staff are under strict instruction to not attend work if they are showing symptoms of COVID-19."
The statement continued by highlighting the privacy of staff and patients would be protected and no details about individual cases would be released unless it was necessary to do so in the interests of public health.
"It remains extremely important that anyone with even the mildest of symptoms is tested for COVID-19, and isolate at home until they can be tested, and until they receive a negative result," it read.
"They must also stay at home until symptoms resolve, even if their result is negative.
"Test appointments can be made by phoning 5352 9532."
East Grampians Health advised symptoms could include: loss or changes in sense of smell or taste; fever; chills or sweats; cough; sore throat; shortness of breath; runny nose; or headache.
"The wider Ararat community is reminded to help stop the spread of COVID-19 by following the restrictions put in place by the Victorian Government," the statement read.
