Mrs Dorothy King died in Geelong on June 16th 2020 at the age of 95 years.
A daughter of the late James Kingston and Annie Louisa (Till) Boatman, Dorothy was born in Stawell, and lived for many years in Ligar Street, Stawell.
Dorothy attended State School 502 and started High School at the tender age of 10 years.
Following completion of School at age 16 years, she worked at the Commonwealth Wool and Produce Company until she was old enough to join the Army.
She enlisted in the Army at the age of 18 and served 3.5 years in the Searchlight Unit in Sydney.
After serving in the Army, Dorothy returned to Stawell and worked at the Stawell Technical School in administration with a program of retraining soldiers with a trade.
It was here she met her husband to be, Thomas Leslie King.
They married in May 1951 and moved to Geelong West and resided there whilst building a house in the new suburb of Highton.
They had three children - Russell John (dec.), Stuart Leslie and Alison Louise.
In 1974, the family moved to Horsham to enable Dorothy's husband Thomas, to accept a promotion with Technical School Department.
From around that time Dorothy developed a keen interest in genealogy and family history.
In 1985, she joined Stawell Historical Society, which became an obsession and she spent many years as the Research Officer.
She compiled many records and files for the Historical Society, which will be used for many years to come.
If anyone wanted to know anything about the history of Stawell, or the people who lived there, she was the person people went to for information.
Dorothy was member of Stawell Historical Society for about 25 years and was a Life Member.
Dorothy retired from Stawell Historical Society in 2010, and a little later moved to Geelong to live with her daughter Alison.
A graveside funeral was held at Horsham cemetery on June 26 2020.
