Stawell could be home to a new interactive Dark Matter Visitors Centre with accommodation to accompany the project.
Residents will have the opportunity to submit feedback for the design on a proposed development at 22 to 28 Sloane Street, Stawell.
Detailed in the plans is a Dark Matter Visitors Centre, embodying facilities such as interactive equipment, virtual reality facilities, 3D cinema, astronomy roof dome (with a telescope), lecture and conferencing facilities, university offices, gift store and café.
Key Infrastructure Australia is the company behind the consultation for the project.
Designer and engineer Bruno Gatsby said he looked forward to receiving feedback from the Stawell community.
"There will also be on display the proposed need and details of associated bus parking, proposed student and visitor accommodation building," he said.
"We have worked on this with the wonderful assistance of Stawell Gold Mines, Northern Grampians Council Shire and other interested parties.
"The exhibition is part of the town planning work and for community feedback information. Professors will also be in attendance to explain the operational features and proposals."
Grampians Education Foundation was established as a registered charity to build and operate the Dark Matter Discovery Centre.
Mr Gatsby said while funding applications for the project were continuing in a "very difficult environment, there was the hope of major sponsors supporting the proposals".
"Well known and respected entity Allan Myers AM QC has substantially assisted in making the Dark Matter Visitor Centre a reality," he said.
"Professor Jeremy Mould, the Chair of the Grampians Education Foundation, has been an inspiring visionary to work with as well."
Mr Gatsby also explained plans drawn up for a number of different options for student and visitor accommodation would be on display.
The exhibition will be open from 10am to 1pm on Saturday July 4 at the Stawell Town Hall.
