Here are some stories, already happening across the region that will make you smile while the world deals with the coronavirus pandemic.
Community chest to help out
Lauren, of Stawell, has set up a community chest outside her home, with food items, toilet paper etc. She received a lovely letter of thanks from someone who took one of the toilet rolls.
The next day the person returned with the note of thanks, and $5.
Friends lend a helping hand
Nothing worse than coming home after a long day at work and starting the dinner routine, sometimes it's the last thing you want to do.
I've had some wonderful friends make my family a meal as they know how busy I am at the moment at work, providing an essential service to the community.
So very thoughtful and generous of them.
Making the most of what's available
Yesterday a mother went to the supermarket for some chicken, there wasn't any.
She walked around for a bit, looked at her options and came home with some fish.
She made a meal on the fly and worried that her kids wouldn't eat it. Turns out everyone loved it, she worried for nothing and also tried a type of fish the family had never had before.
She plans on cooking it again. Without the push to go out of her comfort zone she would have never tried this meal.
The greatness of the Stawell community
I grew up in Stawell and my parents still live there. My parents were coming up to Melbourne and I called my mum to ask if she could get me a pack of baby wipes.
My children should all be beyond wipes, but my son has a serious medical condition which has meant we've been isolated early on. I expected my NDIS order to come as expected but instead at last minute I got told it couldn't be filled. My mum wanted to help put and when she went to the supermarket in Stawell to find there were none there either, she panicked and had spoken to a person working there that she knew well.
Later, we were on the phone talking about how we are getting by, and this person had come to my parents house with a pack of wipes.
I don't even know her, but I have shed a tear that she'd do this. So I committed to passing her kindness on. And gee it feels good!
