Ms Colglazier is writing her honor thesis for her geography major on taking into the consideration all the "big things" in Australia.

Ms Colglazier said she was fascinated by the topic after a lecture mentioned in a off-hand comment.

"My focus is on what do all the big things mean as landmarks, monuments, the landscape and what do people feel about the landscape," she said.

"I picked three of the big things to do case studies on and the giant Koala is one of them.

"I'm trying to find as much information on them as I can including how do the people who live around them feel."

The giant koala was built in the late 1980's. The koala's head and shoulders were built on the ground then hoisted up with a crane and placed on the completed body. The full structure stands 14 meters tall and seven meters wide. It's equivalent to a four story building.

"I've reached out to some people but I am looking for more people who would like to share their stories and memories of the koala," Ms Colglazier said.
