Up against Nhill in the round nine clash, the Warriors got off to a strong start, shooting 19-4 in the first quarter. Nhill pushed back in the second quarter, as Stawell took some time to calm the nerves in a game which would record their first win. Still leading by 20 at half-time, the home team looked to be in a great position to claim the four points.
Ramping up again in the last quarter, the Warriors put the Tigers away with a 36 point margin. Talking straight after the game, the A Grade coaches, Toni Stewart and Tracey Dark couldn't wipe the smiles off their faces. "We did it," Dark said. "We're really proud of how the girls went."
Despite the difference in the scoreline, Dark said it wasn't an easy game and the team worked hard for every score on the board.
"I was looking at the turnovers and we were exactly the same as last week in the first quarter," she said. "But we took those opportunities and really turned it around and made our first quarter our strongest, which really put us in a good position for the game."
Stewart said settling the girl's nerves was something, going forward, which will need work.
"We will work on harnessing the excitement until the end of the game - we know there were some rushed plays as the game went on and the anticipation kept building," she said.
"The team is made up of some really young players - so it can be expected. It's more about how we can channel the energy moving forward."
