It's been nothing but blue skies for the MP, in more ways than one.
"No eggs have been thrown, everyone's been very pleasant. The only eggs I had was on the barbeque this morning at the Ararat booth on an egg and bacon roll," he said with a laugh.
"It's been much quieter, we've had a steady process rather than there being fairly long lines coming out of the polling booth as you otherwise might have seen.
"It does seem that a lot of people have voted early so it's been a bit calmer."
With voting centres closing their doors at 6pm, only time will tell if Mr Tehan will retain the traditionally blue-ribbon seat.
"You're always a little bit nervous because ultimately you're in other people's hands, there's that little bit of apprehension," he said.
"Time will tell. I've done some hard work over the last three years and hoping people will recognise that.
"We'll wait and see, you never get ahead of yourself."
Holding the seat of Wannon by a generous 9.2 per cent margin, Mr Tehan refutes claims that the region has missed out on the perks that come with being a marginal seat.
"What I would say is $88 million for the Twelve Apostles Precinct, $140 million for roads, $5 million for Warrnambool CBD upgrade, $1.5 million for the Port Fairy walk, $14 million to keep Deakin going, $32 million for the East Grampians Pipeline - the list goes on," he said.
"One of the things that often happens with an electorate this size is they don't realise what's happening elsewhere and what you're doing elsewhere.
"I obviously have to service the whole electorate and I think there's been some significant investments. Often it's just a matter of getting out and communicating what you're doing.
"I'll just continue to work hard and continue to deliver."
