After recent damage to the oval and a delay in the netball court upgrades the club's committee was forced to make decisions to ensure the venue was suitable for the first game of the season.
The oval needed to be re-sown in early March due to environmental damage.
"We had an African Black Beetle in the ground that was eating the roots of the grass and killed the grass," president Tracey McCartney said.
"We had to poison the beetle off and re-sow the oval. It's growing well and we've been keeping off the oval.
"The teams only have one week of training on the oval before our first round of football."
Mrs McCartney said the committee manage the oval on behalf of the Shire.
"It's cost us about $10,000 for all the works that we have had to do," she said.
"This is extra funds we haven't budgeted for and also money we could have used towards something else such as our juniors or development programs.
"It's been pretty disastrous really, it wasn't looking good for a while - with not having both an oval and netball court.
"Credit goes out to all the volunteers and helpers. They've all done a terrific job to get us to where we need to be."
Northern Grampians Shire councillor Jason Hosemans said it was unfortunate the works wouldn't be completed for the first round.
"It's moving along - just a bit slower than we would like," he said.
"The base prep has been completed but they still haven't got the slab down as yet, hoping it will be down by the end of next week.
"It will be right by May 4, the next home game. If we are really lucky it will be ready by round one but it isn't looking likely at the minute."
Cr Hosemans said the hold-ups were due to complications with the project.
"Initially there were land title issues - part of it is officially Telstra land," he said.
"That slowed down the start of the project.
"It's going to be fantastic when it's finished and we have to look at the longer term."
Mrs McCartney said she contacted Netball Victoria during the week to discuss the options for round one.
"Netball Victoria has approved the use of the old court for round one," she said.
