The group saw the need to raise money for a new oncology fridge at the Stawell Hospital, with the one previously being used too small.
A full day tour of four historic properties in the region was selected as a different way to raise funds for a new fridge, with the event booking out, taking place in late May.
Nearly $16,000 was raised from the tour while at the same time providing a quirky and informative history lesson of the region to those that participated.
“It was a really successful day, people still rave about it even now,” Stawell Regional Health public relations officer Noelene Gration said.
“Like all auxiliary projects it raised money but what was special about this event was it got to show people the history and beauty of some of the region.”
The funds enabled Stawell Regional Health to purchase a new, larger and more appropriate oncology fridge which is now in place.
Ms Gration said the event worked well due to the generosity of local businesses.
“The people who owned those homesteads were very generous but there were so many others that were incredibly generous with what they did to help out,” she said.
Ms Gration said the group is planning on running the event again in 2020.
