Hawthorn premiership star Robert ‘Dipper’ DiPierdomenico will spearhead the celebrations at Stawell while harness racing trainer Maree Caldow will lead the events at St Arnaud.
The pair will address the respective communities and join in the celebrations in the town.
‘Dipper’ will present the citizen of the year award with Northern Grampians mayor Kevin Erwin from 6pm at Stawell’s Cato Park. A jumping castle, face painting, petting zoo and a free barbeque will also be part of the celebrations.
‘Dipper’ is an AFL hall of fame inductee and a five-time premiership player.
“It’s great to have such a recognisable figure like ‘Dipper’ joining us, hopefully that helps attract a large crowd for our Australia Day celebrations,” Cr Erwin said.
“I’m looking forward to hearing the boundary rider’s comments on the day, he’s a well-known personality and a funny man as well.”
Mrs Caldow will be at celebrations in St Arnaud from 9am at Market Square on Australia Day. It will be followed by a morning tea served at the St Arnaud Town Hall at the conclusion of the ceremony.
Mrs Caldow has been involved with more than 800 winners, accumulating $5.6 million in prizemoney.
“Maree has got a distinguished career in harness racing, and St Arnaud has a great history with the sport also,” Cr Tony Driscoll said.
“It would be great to have her with us on Australia Day and I hope as many people as possible come along to hear her story.”
