66 players from across the region competed for the share in the $6400 total prize pool.
West Country Victoria Division Australian Poker League tournament director Fiona Patterson said the event was created in memory of Mr Weeks.
“We are hoping to make this event the inaugural of an annual event and grow the participation,” she said.
“Jacob Weeks was not only a tournament director, he also played cards and was well known in the area.”
Ms Patterson said the event played out in great spirits.
“The final three players decided to split the remaining prize money each receiving $1500 each and playing out for the remaining $200,” she said.
Brendan Jones was the eventual tournament winner, runners-up to Tim Brown with Vincent Rilloraza taking home third spot.
Players were awarded prizes through to ninth place.
“Poker is a great game and it’s very social. Many people might not realise we play three times a week,” Ms Patterson said.
“We play Monday nights at the Stawell Harness Racing Club, Tuesday nights at the Ararat RSL and Thursday nights at the Leopold Hotel in Ararat.
“We also host a number of tournaments during the year and alternate between Stawell and Ararat.”
