The two men arrested in relation to an alleged cannabis setup in Stawell were due to face court Monday.
However the case was adjourned to a Melbourne court so the men could receive language interpreters.
Ararat Crime Investigation Unit detectives have arrested two men after locating an alleged cannabis setup in Stawell Friday night.
Ararat Detective Senior Constable Mal Wineberg said police executed a warrant at a Byrne Street address in Stawell.
“We located a sophisticated cannabis crop house. We have arrested two males – a 41-year-old Springvale man and a 55-year-old man from Noble Park,” he said.
“There is quite a few hundred plants in the house. We are still counting – it’s a commercial quantity of cannabis plants.”
Detective Senior Constable Mal Wineberg said the plants were located various bedrooms and lounge areas of the house.
“There are some quite mature plants in there, so they have been here for some weeks or months,” he said.
“We are unsure if they two properties are related,” Detective Senior Constable Mal Wineberg said.
“In general this is an issue statewide.”
Both men have been charged with cultivate a commercial quantity of cannabis and remanded to appear at Ararat Magistrates’ Court on Monday, November 12.
Police issued a warrant at a Stawell address on Friday, November 9.
Ararat Detective Senior Constable Caroline Blackley said the warrant was issued for an address in Byrne Street, Stawell.
“We have located a number of items we believe to be connected with the cultivation of cannabis,” she said.
Police have contained the property and are waiting for specialists to arrive.
“Due to the circumstances, we are waiting for our botanist from Melbourne to come up. So once they come up we will be able to start clearing out the property,” she said.
