The recognition comes after Notting played his 200th match during the sesaon.
Great Western Football Netball Club president Tracey McCartney said it was a fantastic achievement.
“It is a great achievement to get 200 games for a club. Shannon’s service to the club is just as good as the milestone,” she said.
McCartney said Notting always jumps in and helps where he can and is currently a member of the board doing merchandising at the club – a position he has held for about three or four years.
“He has always been on the committee in some form. He always is ready to jump in and help – from boundary umpiring to the canteen, he is always willing to help out in any way he can,” she said.
Notting said the accolade comes after his involvement in the club for 16 years.
“Over the years I have made many friends at the club and it’s a great, family friendly club to be apart of,” he said.
Notting said football clubs play an imperative role in smaller country towns like Great Western.
“When we went into recess it knocked the town around a bit. When we came back out of recess it really brought everyone together. The camaraderie and family feel of the club is something we are all proud of,” he said.
Notting is looking forward to continuing his football career at Great Western.
“I have two young sons playing. Hopefully they continue on their football journey and have a chance to play senior football at Great Western,” he said.
Notting said reaching a milestone of 200 games could be reached by a number of younger players currently at the club.
“We have a few players who have reached smaller milestones and are on the way for 200. Being awarded a life membership is a great reminder of how you can be rewarded,” he said.
McCartney described Notting as a great asset to the club and is looking forward to what the future holds at the football club.
