Senior Sergeant Wright has taken on the role of Station Commander of Stawell. He started on Monday.
Senior Sergeant Wright grew up in a small country town of Sea Lake and has been a member of Victoria Police for more than 16 years.
“I have been based in a number of different areas in Western Victoria – most recently in Horsham,” he said.
Senior Sergeant Wright said he looked forward to building on the foundations already in place in the Stawell community.
“I am really keen to make sure our members are accessible to the community. I think this is really important in a small community,” he said.
Senior Sergeant Wright said although levels of crime in Stawell were relatively low compared with other areas of the state, it remained an area to combat.
“We certainly can’t take our eye off the ball,” he said.
Senior Sergeant Wright said his new role involves also overseeing both St. Arnaud and Halls Gap stations.
“There are more than 30 members in my team which perform a variety of duties,” he said.
Emergency management in the region is a task Senior Sergeant Wright is ensuring both he and the team are prepared for.
“Our planning and preparations are in full swing. I’m looking forward to meeting all the key stakeholders and start building relationships so we can work together to keep the community safe,” he said.
Senior Sergeant Wright said he looked forward to spending time in the community and meeting people.
“Building relationships and partnerships within the community is a really important. We rely on these connections to help us do our job effectively,” he said.
Senior Sergeant Wright will replace Senior Sergeant Rob Weppner the Station Commander of Stawell for the previous four years.
Senior Sergeant Weppner has taken up a role supervising the Yarriambiack cluster. The area encompasses Hopetoun, Warracknabeal, Murtoa and respective cluster stations within the area.
Senior Sergeant Weppner will also provide support to Stawell and Ararat as required.
