Health Minister Jill Hennessy announced a grant worth $293,000 would support staff to record patients’ medical records and history.
She said it meant patients would no longer need to bring their own records to individual services.
“Patients don’t have to be searching at home, trying to find referral letters … and other diagnostic test results,” Ms Hennessy said.
The proposed system moves Stawell Regional Health from paper-based to electronic records.
Ms Hennessy acknowledged that the privacy of records could cause concern, but she said there was a plan in place to keep details safe.
“In Victoria, we have a regulatory model that is essentially about protecting health privacy information,” she said.
Stawell Regional Health chairwoman Rhian Jones said it was “fantastic” for the hospital to receive the funding for an “important and vital” medical record service.
