Top age girls and boys participated in the annual Turner-Tuckey challenge on Friday night against Ararat at Alexandra Oval in cold and wet conditions.
Stawell trailed for most of the night, with inaccurate kicking in front of goal a big issue.
Stawell trailed by 16 points at three-quarter-time but was able to storm home for a memorable 4.12 (30) to 4.3 (27) victory with a goal in the last minute to win the game.
Ben Matthews was named as best on ground for Stawell in the match.
It was the first time Stawell had won the challenge since 2012.
Stawell 13 and Under Football Association secretary said it was a great night of junior football.
“It was freezing in trying conditions but the kids had a blast,” she said.
“The Stawell girls and boys never gave up which paid off in the end. They were very excited when they kicked that last goal and won the match.”
Challenge namesakes Scott Turner and Brent Tuckey coached the respective Ararat and Stawell teams.
