Visy recovers materials such as cardboard, paper, plastic, steel, aluminum and glass.
It operates 120 recycling sites throughout Australasia.
Last year Visy pledged $2 billion to it’s operations, which is expected to create 5000 new jobs across the next decade.
Northern Grampians Shire Council’s contractor Wheelie Waste – a waste management collection service – will send the recycling to Visy.
The recycling will be bulked together for transportation.
This will also involve the undertaking of random inspections and audits.
Mayor Tony Driscoll said the council had completed significant work around communicating the importance of recycling to keep it out of landfill.
“Council is committed to ongoing recycling within the community and we’ll continue to work with other tiers of government on this matter as well,” he said.
“Our recycling is categorically not going into landfill.”
Cr Driscoll said the council was part of the Victorian Government’s Recycling Industry Strategic Plan – a blueprint for a safe, resilient and efficient recycling system in Victoria.
This will come under a three-year plan to stabilise the recycling sector.
Its other goals include increasing the quality of recycled materials, improving the recycling sector’s diversity and productivity and developing new markets for recyclable materials.
The plan also includes an aim to help minimise the costs of kerbside recycling collection services to households.
