The shire currently owns the building, on 34 Alma Street St Arnaud, after acquiring it in 2001 with the help of a state government grant.
NGSC mayor Tony Driscoll said the Neighbourhood House provides a vital community service in St Arnaud.
The Men’s Shed is also run from the Neighbourhood House.
“This decision gives them (Neighbourhood House) both surety of tenure and independence and Council divests itself of a property that will not be used for Council purposes,” he said.
“It is a win-win situation.
“Council negotiated with the Neighbourhood House to gift the property to them with the understanding that if they sell the property at some point, councils original financial contribution is returned.”
The councils original financial contribution put in to purchase the property was $10,000.
As part of the formal process in gifting the property, community members who might want to have their say on this decision have until July 12 to make a submission in writing to the Council.
