35 anglers took to Lake Fyans on Saturday and Sunday with plenty of “quality fish” reeled in.
“We didn’t have as many people as we hoped but everyone that was there had a really good time,” event organiser Neal Dowsett said.
“Everyone said they will be back next year and bring people with them so I can only see it growing.”
Zach Bourke was the winner of the inaugural competition, catching 6.6 kilograms worth of fish over the two days. Steve Field’s 1.731 fish was the biggest of the weekend.
Wilson Dowsett won the junior division with 4.3kg. He also had the biggest fish in the juniors, reeling in a 1.501kg fish.
More than $1100 was raised for the Pomonal Primary School from the competition.
“We had people come and try on the kayaks and come through to have a look and buy raffle tickets,” Dowsett said.
“We will be back next year for sure. There will be things we will look at like moving it to one day at the Easter weekend or things like that. We can turn it into a big annual competition.”
