Carey will lead his team out against Edenhope-Apsley in front of a home crowd at Stawell’s North Park.
“It will definitely be special bringing up the milestone at our home ground. It is always good to play in front of our crowd,” he said.
Carey has been involved with the Baggies for most of his life, playing the majority of his football career with the club. Bringing up his 200th match will also result on Carey’s induction as a life member.
His family has been involved in the club for a long time as well, which played a factor in him staying for so long. “(Playing 200 games) is something I wanted to achieve from a pretty young age,” he said.
“Mum and Dad both have life memberships. I would always see their names on the honour board and think to myself that I wanted to be up there too one day.
“It is very special for me and I am glad I will be able to achieve it.”
It is very special for me...
- Scott Carey
Carey has been crucial both on and off the field for the Baggies, no more so than in the previous three seasons when he took over the role of senior coach.
He has been at the forefront of Swifts’ resurgence to finals, leading the side to an elimination final victory in 2017, the club’s first senior football finals win since their premiership in 2014.
Carey’s path to 200 games has been decorated with accolades, most notably including his double award win last year.
He was selected as the Horsham District Football League coach of the year as well as winning the Dellar Medal as the league’s best and fairest.
Despite plenty of individual awards, Carey said one team achievement stands out as a highlight from his 200 games.
“It is quite a hard one to pick one highlight but I can’t go past the 2014 premiership. The work put in to achieve that was pretty special.”
“Still the best thing about it though is the everyday things around the club.
“Getting to spend time with the boys and have a laugh. We play footy because it is enjoyable – whether it is my 200th game or another random one, I enjoy them all.”
Swifts president Steve Hoffman said the club has been lucky to have the services of Carey for 200 games.
“His loyalty to the club has been great and the influence he has on the younger guys to get the best out of their footy and themselves is second to none,” he said.
“We wish him the best of luck on the weekend.”
