The foundation was established in 1994 as a funding source for St Arnaud hospital.
St Arnaud hospital has been part of the East Wimmera Health Service since 1873.
The hospital provides a broad range of integrated services, including casualty, acute, aged care, primary care, community health, onsite x-ray/ultrasounds, pathology and visiting medical support.
The hospitals emergency services are available for 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
The foundation for St Arnaud hospital is independent of East Wimmera Health Service and it is administered by trustees, who are volunteers.
The grant was part of the Commonwealth Bank’s 100 year celebrations.
The bank is giving $10-million to community organisations, with 1,000 centenary grants each valued at $10,000, distributed.
Employees from St Arnaud’s Commonwealth Bank branch nominated St Arnaud District Hospital Foundation for one of the $10,000 grants.
“We’re thrilled to be able to support organisations like the St Arnaud Hospital Foundation in the important work they do for our local community,” Commonwealth Bank’s St Arnaud branch manager Tracy Coughlin said.
The bank also nominated St Arnaud Hospital Foundation for the grant, for the inspiring and far reaching impact their work has.
The grant came from the Commonwealth Bank’s CommBank Foundation program.
More than 13,000 current and retired employees of Commonwealth Bank choose to contribute donations from their pay to the foundation.
The Commonwealth Bank matches contributions by employees dollar-for-dollar and all administrative costs are met by the bank, so 100-per-cent of the funds go directly to organisations.
The fund’s donations go to support youth wellbeing, access to education including disadvantaged schools and cancer research and awareness.
