The two-time Stawell Gift winner (2003, 2005) was announced as the club’s newest legend at the call of the card ahead of the137th running of Australia’s richest footrace.
Australia’s former top sprinter said it is an “incredible privilege” to be inducted as a legend in the hall of fame.
“To stand alongside (former winners) Edmonson and Ravelomanantsoa as a legend is truly an honour,” he said.
“I am very happy that the Stawell Athletic Club has recognised my hard work and dedication to the sport. It really means the world to me.”
Ross’ attempt at a record third Stawell Gift ended in the heats on Saturday, finishing third in his heat with his time not quick enough to progress to the semis.
“I will be back next year and hope to improve,” he said.
“It is a part of who I am – it is in my blood.
“17 years later I am still here and I think I will be coming to Stawell for the rest of my life.”
