Aradale Cricket Club has refuted claims the side “withdrew” from last weekend’s Henry Gunstone Cup T20 competition, suggesting they never submitted a team entry.
Issues were caused when Grampians Cricket Association’s nine team fixture had to be changed after Aradale informed GCA officials they had not entered a team.

Aradale president Aaron Kilpatrick said his club never intended to compete in the competition.
“A week prior we decided we wouldn’t put a team in because we wouldn’t have the numbers to be competitive – we thought it would be best to take a week off,” he said.
“We were confused and quite annoyed to see the league go ahead and put us in anyway.
“It is frustrating to see the league speaking for us because we never had any intentions of entering a team.”
GCA secretary and T20 organiser Craig Marrow said Aradale’s inclusion in the original fixture was a “misunderstanding”.
“We gauged which clubs had expressions of interest at an executive meeting prior to the event and Aradale’s name may have inadvertently and incorrectly been mentioned,” he said.
“We went through the documentation and it turns out they didn’t make an application. It was an unfortunate misunderstanding.”
