66 golfers from 19 clubs across the region gathered at Stawell on Monday for a Wimmera veterans golf association event.
The players competed in a stableford competition which was the second Wimmera veterans event at Stawell for the year.
Horhsam’s Bob Hayes was the best of A Grade on the day, scoring 38 points to finish ahead of Stawell’s Geoff Blachford on 35 points.
Horsham’s Robert Lyness (36 points) had a narrow one-point B Grade win over Des Hull from Chalambar, while Peter Cross had a C Grade win on his home course of Stawell.
Stawell Golf Club veterans coordinator Ron Bailey said the course was in great condition for the event.
“We have had a lot of really good scores recently which shows how well the course is playing,” he said.
“We believe if the course is good when we have visiting organisations some people may come back – we want people to be back and playing our course.”
Stawell will host its next veterans event on Monday, February 5 next year.
