‘The Answer’ won two and lost two fights this year, which included winning the XFC heavyweight title in May.
Joiner fought in his last bout of the year on Friday night were he lost to kickboxing specialist Ben Edwards in Canberra. Joiner said he enjoyed the contest despite going down by TKO.
“It was a fun fight to be in – he hit me I hit him,” he said.
“Unfortunately he got the better of it, these things happen.”
Joiner said it was different having to fight in a boxing ring rather than a traditional octagon arena.
“Fighting in a ring was different and honestly I wasn't a big fan of it,” he said.
Joiner said looking back at the past 12 months he has seen his fighting develop and improve.
“The year has been up an down – I won a title but lost my first fight,” he said.
“I'd still call it a successful year because I’m in a better position now than this time last year.
“Mainly because I’m surrounded by the best talent in this country and with these guys i can only get better.”
Joiner is based out of the Westside MMA gym in Melbourne.
With no fights left for the remainder of the year, the former Stawell resident said he will look to relax during what is left in 2017.
“My only plans for the rest of the year are to chill out, get out of the city and visit friends and family,” he said.
“I'll be in Stawell in a couple of weeks.”
Joiner said he intends to work on the craft of mixed martial arts and come back bigger and stronger in 2018.
“On first thought I’d really just want to improve everything – people forget I’m still very new and still learning. “I don’t really have any plans as yet, but what I really want to do is get back up to Queensland and defend my (XFC) title.”
“I think with these experiences I will be better.”
