Stawell’s Friday night tennis competition started last week with four teams battling it out in a quickfire format that ends before Christmas.
Frewstal begun the competition with a big 43-game win over David O Jones Mitre 10 to see them at the top of the ladder after the first round.
The first group of sets saw Frewstal take a 19 game advantage and after the second group of sets this pushed out to a 40 game lead.
Pat Hall, Neve O’shannessy and Zayne Hall all played well for Frewstal while for David O Jones Mitre 10 Richard Dodds and Seth Blake combined well together to give their team the best set score of the night with a 8-2 result over their opponents.
The night’s other match was a much closer affair, with Stawell Toyota taking the match by 10 games over Farrers Tyrepower.
With only 3 games the difference in Toyota’s favour before the mixed and singles sets, the result could have been anyone’s but Toyota kept the momentum going and finished on top.
Scott Carey, Molly Orr and Jonah O’Shannessy led the way for Toyota and Brian O’Shannessy, Kasey Mornane and David Simpkin were Farrers best contributors.
Stawell Tennis Club’s junior and hot shots sessions have also gotten underway on Saturday mornings.
