The recruit from cross town rivals Stawell began his season in fine form, eventually going on to poll 43 votes to win the award.
He finished seven votes ahead of Swifts coach Carey. Carey won the Horsham District Football League best and fairest earlier in the month.
Taylor booted 25 goals from the midfield and was named in the best six on ground for the Baggies 14 times throughout the season.
This is the first season the senior football best and fairest award has been named after club legend and former president Trevor Skurrie.
Swifts coach Scott Carey said it was not a surprise to see Taylor come away with the award win.
“Internally the respect for Ben is enormous,” he said.
“We were more surprised that he didn’t poll better at the league count than how he polled on Saturday night.
“He rarely had a bad game throughout the season.”
Carey said Taylor was important in setting a high standard for his team this year.
“He came in and from the first training session he wanted to lift the standards for the club,” he said.
“He wanted to have other players follow him and improve this year.”
Ryan Folkes finished in third place with 22 votes.
