Stawell athlete Tom Walker recorded his best placing at the Australian Cross Country Championships last Sunday.
Walker finished 16th in a group of more than 50 competitors in the boys 17 and under six kilometre race at Wollongong.
The Stawell secondary student was Victoria’s fifth best runner, contributing to the team to earn a second placed finish behind New South Wales.
Walker finished the race one minute and six seconds behind the eventual winner.
“I was really happy with my race,” he said.
“I finished 70th or so last year so it is good to see the improvement I have made in the last 12 months and that my training is paying off.”
Walker will now set his sights on the upcoming track and field season.
“I’ll move my training from longer cross country to shorter track sessions and will be aiming for the 5000 metre track,” he said.
“I hope to qualify for the track and field nationals.”
