Williamson will become the first female AFL Western District general manager and the second female appointed to the role across the state, following the appointment of Carol Cathcart in the same role at AFL Central Victoria earlier this year.
Commission Chairman Greg Wood said Williamson’s experience and skills would be a welcomed addition to the Commission.
“We are delighted to have Kate come on board as the new Region General Manager, where she will bring a wealth of business knowledge to the role,” he said.
“She has had a vast amount of management experience both locally and internationally which will help lead the strategic direction of the Commission moving forward.”
Williamson has previously been a member of the Stawell Athletic Committee for a number of years, something Kate said was instrumental in growing her passion for sport and prompting her to move her career into the sporting industry.
“I am really excited to be given the opportunity to be in this role. It’s based in the town I live in and it’s a really vibrant sporting area, so I’m looking forward to getting started,” she said.
Williamson replaces Lachy Patterson who resigned in May to take up a position at the Southern Grampians Shire.
She will start in the new general manager position on July 24.
