Stawell CFA rushed to the Alfred Street home about 1am after the fire was called in as fully-engulfed.
Ararat CFA District 16 operations manager Neville Collins said a laptop was being charged on a power-board with one other item when the blaze ignited.
“The power-board was not overloaded,” he said.
“The laptop cord was curled up and this has caused an electrical fault.
“Electronic devices should not be charged overnight or while you are sleeping, they can overheat.”
The incident caused up to $135,000 damage to the home, with fire fighters only able to save 50 per cent of the property.
