The MCDFNL fought out an evenly contested match to beat the WDFNL in their interleague clash on Saturday.
The Lions led at all of the main breaks to come away with a 14.10.94 to 9.13.66 win.
The MCDFNL made the most of a strong breeze with a five goal to one first term.
They were able to consolidate their lead in the second and take a 21-point lead into the main break.
Co-captain Jayden Fowkes said the side played well when attacking into the wind.
“We came out strong, and knew we had to play a bit of possession footy when we were kicking into the wind.”
The WDFNL looked to provide something for their home fans after half time, rallying to kick four goals in the third term.
Navarre’s Ash Driscoll was able to wrestle the momentum back to the MCDFNL, kicking two goals within a minute to give them a nine-point lead going into the final quarter.
Five goals in the final quarter saw the MCDFNL claim a 28-point win.
Navarre’s Ash Driscoll was named best on ground finishing with five goals, with brother Cody kicking three of his own.
“Ash had a really good game up forward,” Fowkes said.
Fowkes said the team was very happy to have come away with the win.
“It is always good to have a win at this level that’s for sure.”
