Tickets are still available for the Folks for Refugees event in the region later this month.
In its third year, Folk for Refugees will be held at Halls Gap on Saturday, May 27, with all proceeds being donated to refugee support groups.
Organiser Corinne Leahy, said Folk for Refugee was an event featuring good tunes, good food and wine and good people coming together to raise funds and awareness for the plight of refugees.
Ms Leahy said the live music event had been incredibly popular in the past two years, raising more than $12,000, most of which was donated to the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre and the Friends of Refugees groups.
Musicians from the local area as well as Melbourne, Geelong and Bendigo are donating their time for the event. Acts include Alister Turrill, Ghost of Connie Francis, The War of Ideas, Orange Whip, Beatroute and the Nang Nangs and the Recalcitrants.
Ms Leahy said the support of locals had been integral to the event’s success.
“We have immense support from the local community and local businesses, who have donated goods and services to help us run the event, and we’re incredibly thankful to them all,” she said.
“We are all very passionate about raising awareness of refugees and asylum seekers and we welcome anyone who wants to come along and again help make the event a success.”
Folk for Refugees will be held from 2pm to 9pm on May 27 at Pioneer Cottages, 58 Pioneer Lane (off Birdswing Road), Halls Gap.
The event is fully licensed (no BYO) with food available on site, and you can bring your own chairs and picnic rugs. There is on-site parking and a courtesy bus will be running between Halls Gap town centre and the event.
Adult tickets are $30 and can be purchased at: https://www.trybooking.com/book/event?eid=264602
Ms Leahy said it you couldn’t make it to the event, you could still make a donation via that same link.
Organisers are still keen to hear anyone interested in volunteering on the day.
