Navarre will face Trentham to open its premiership defence in the Maryborough Castlemaine District Football Netball League on Saturday.
The round one match will also be the first home game of the season for the Grasshoppers.
Coach Jayden Fowkes said there is always a bit of the unknown about different teams at the start of a season.
“I have heard Trentham have picked up a few and they always seem to match up against us, no matter where both teams are on the ladder,” he said.
“We will take it week by week but we definitely want to start the season with a win and get some momentum going.”
Fowkes said the reigning premiers are wary of the Saints and what they are capable of.
“They have always been a young side, and are really well coached,” he said.
“They break the lines really well, so will need to try and stop that as much as we can.”
The Grasshoppers will have a near-full squad to choose from for the season opener at the Navarre Sports Complex.
