The Mininera and District Football League umpiring situation remains unresolved after talks with the Wimmera Football Umpires Association failed to provide a satisfactory result for both parties last week.
League chairman John Box said it was frustrating for the situation to carry on so close to the start of the season.
“Going on a little bit longer than I would have liked,” he said.
“We have signed up the Ararat and Hamilton district umpires which gives us enough to do five games games each weekend.
“If we did not have those in place, we would be in real trouble if the Wimmera umpires do not work out.
“I just hope we can sort something out soon either way.”
The league had a meeting on Monday to discuss alternatives.
“We have got a back up plan if it does not work out,” Box said.
“We can fill the remaining two games with umpires from within the league.” The season starts on April 8.
