Stawell Performing Arts Company will be hosting three open mic events this year to provide performance opportunities for company and other community members.
Leader of the performance group Dianne Stewart said the open mic event will have a theme to promote different styles of music and performance and provide opportunities to perform works people may not otherwise have an opportunity to do.
“The first in the series is on Friday, March 24, and will focus on the theme of stage and screen,” she said.
“Any and all performances related to the theme are encouraged, singers, dancers, instrumental solos and ensembles, actors and performances generally.
“This is a young-person and child-friendly event and performers of all ages and abilities are encouraged to perform.”
Stawell Performing Arts Company member who also led the town’s Carols by Candlelight last year, Greg Little, will be the MC on the evening.
Ms Stewart said he could also take to the stage himself before the end of the night.
”The SPACi Come and Sing group will perform two songs from well-known musicals and a number of young singers and pianists have already registered to perform,” she said.
“Up to 14 performance spots are available and anyone interested in performing is encouraged to reserve their place by contacting Dianne Stewart on 0427 850 278.
“Entry is a low $3 to be paid at the door and although there is no charge to perform, performers will be required to pay the door fee. Snacks and drinks will be available for purchase, no alcohol.”
The theme of the second show, from the three-part series, will focus on classical, traditional and folk on Friday, June 9.
The final show on Friday, October 20, will feature a jazz, blues, soul and spirituals theme.
Ms Stewart said SPACi was a community based organisation, who through the efforts of volunteers provided opportunities for people in the region to be involved in the performing arts.
“It is hoped that the open mic events will encourage more people to take the stage and share their talents with the community because there are plenty out there who enjoy the performing arts and have the ability to go with it,” she said.
“We are inviting all members of the community to come along to these events and witness a great display of talent and passion of the performing arts by these fine students.”
All three shows in the series will start at 7.30pm at the Band Hall, corner of Wakeham and Sloane Streets, Stawell.
