Coffey has dominated the local Stawell course for a number of years and despite the lift in competition he continues to win at the next level.
Coffey, who hails from the Traralgon Golf Club, has won all of the Wimmera titles he has contested.
While not completely satisfied with the way he played he was happy to make it three consecutive titles.
“I played well enough to win, but I wasn't at my best on the day,” Coffey said.
“I actually didn’t think I played well enough to win, but it was a good result. You are always pretty honoured to win a district championship.”
Coffey had a nervous wait in the club house following the completion of his 36 holes.
After shooting a first round 77 and a second round 79 he felt pressure coming from the later players.
Brett Cookson was hot on his tail, but failed to make the most of his opportunities.
“There is no point getting nervous when you are waiting for other golfers to come in,” Coffey said.
“You just have to sit and wait it out. I was lucky enough to win.”
Coffey is hopeful that one day in the near future a Stawell up and coming golfer will take the prize, but until then, Coffey plans to defend his title.
The Wimmera Championships were held in Minyip.
The Wimmera team will compete at Country Week Championships, however Coffey is unavailable for the tournament due to work commitments.
He often gives up his spare time to coach the younger players in Stawell and his knowledge and experience does not go unnoticed.
