The department advised the burn would ignite on Thursday at noon and continue until 6pm next Wednesday.
The burn will cover 469 hectares and will ignite five kilometres south-east of Mirranatwa.
The department said smoke may be visible from Bornes Hill and Victoria Valley.
Parks Victoria advises people to stay away from areas where burns are planned or places recently burnt.
Parks advised people to be careful on the roads and aware of potentially lowered visibility and changed signed conditions.
Nearby residents should close all doors and windows and avoid hanging washing outside.
Access to walking tracks, car parks, camping ground and picnic sites may be restricted.
The Department of Health advises people that suffer adverse reactions to seek medical advice or call 1300 606 024.
