For two years the Lions have been winless, but they turned the tables on Saturday when they produced a win over Caramut.
A grade coach Sharon Ralph said it was “absolutely splendid” that the girls finally had some reward for effort.
“It has been a long time coming,” Ralph said.
“It is the highlight the club have been looking for. Hopefully we can work on that and make it happen again before the season is over.”
The current team has just three returning A graders from last year, including Jacqui Ralph, Tayla Lembo and Courtney Morrow.
Great Western have struggled to keep a consistent team on the court from year to year.
Mollie Simpson and Kim Shalders have been at Great Western all their careers and the win was especially important for them.
“It is good for everyone involved,” Ralph said.
“If the kids see potential success they might want to play in years to come.”
