“We can’t imagine being able to support our community without the help of our wonderful band of dedicated volunteers,” health volunteer team member Susan Power said.
“Grampians Community Health is always looking for new volunteers and providing training for people who would like to become a volunteer. Our volunteers offer their skills, expertise and support and are all vital links within our community.
“The invisible thread they weave throughout our community adds another dimension to the fabric of our organisation.”
Grampians Community Health volunteers are matched with people in the community who can benefit from their knowledge, experience, empathy and respect.
The volunteers are supported by dedicated program co-ordinators and receive opportunities for self-development and training ensuring their continued involvement. The health volunteer team leads and co-ordinates the team of dedicated and committed volunteers across four inclusive community programs.
- The Welcome Program supports families new to the area by connecting them to the community.
- Do Care Program is a friendly visiting program, which aims to provide companionship, on a regular basis, for people who are socially isolated or who have a disability and are living at home.
- The Talk Listen Care Program assists families who have a family member with a mental illness or an intellectual disability by visiting and engaging with this person.
- The Community Car Program provides a car and volunteer drivers to assist those no longer able to drive, to attend medical appointments throughout regional Victoria and Melbourne.
Grampians Community Health also provides active respite options where volunteers provide community based services to help carers take a break from their role.
Social support and recovery volunteers work with the health service to support their communities in times of an emergency such as fire or flood. Grampians Community Health will host a volunteer training session on Tuesday, May 17 from 1pm to 3.30pm at the Stawell campus. Volunteers will need a police check and working with children certificate.
The cost is covered by the service.
